ANGER uses its state-of-the-art Innova Rig and City Rig drilling rigs (418 mT and 500 mT respectively) to drill to depths of up to 7,000 m. This technology is employed in demanding deep geothermal projects – both nationally and internationally.
Energy from the earth – innovation from ANGER
ANGER uses state-of-the-art drilling technology to tap into natural energy sources – sustainably, efficiently and with a focus on the future.
Energy potential of the depths
Depending on the temperature of the deep waters, they can be used for:
- Electricity generation through high-temperature geothermal energy
- Heat supply for regional heating networks
Geological regions such as the greater Munich area or the Upper Rhine Graben are particularly suitable. ANGER is implementing geothermal projects here with capacities ranging from 15 to 60 MWh.
World record project in Finland
A milestone: the drilling in Espoo (Finland) with a record-breaking depth of 6,400 m in granite rock – an internationally acclaimed project.
Perspective for the energy transition
Geothermal energy is a renewable, CO₂-free, and virtually inexhaustible energy source. It plays a central role in the politically desired decarbonization of the energy supply.
Medium-depth geothermal energy: The geothermal intermediate step
Geothermal energy use is not limited to great depths: Medium-depth geothermal energy taps into depths between 400 m and approximately 1,500 m.
Storage for seasonal heat
Geothermal storage solutions are increasingly coming into focus, as they can absorb excess solar heat in the summer and make it available in the winter. ANGER is active as a project partner in this area – for example, in the SKEWS research project, which deals with seasonal crystalline geothermal storage systems.
HoriThermie®: Near-surface geothermal energy with a system
Together with GTE, ANGER developed a new concept for near-surface geothermal energy in 2024: HoriThermie®.
Large wells as a heat source
The technology is based on horizontal filter wells (HFB), which have been established in water management for years. These make it possible to extract heat from the groundwater using large heat pumps without consuming it – the quantity balance remains stable.
- Arrangement as an HFB doublet for optimal return
- Use for heat generation and cooling
Efficiency and performance
Even with a flow rate of 135 l/s, 5 MWh of thermal output can be achieved. In particularly productive aquifers, significantly higher outputs are possible. Annual base load outputs of up to 100 GWh are realistic.
Flexibility in project models & contracts
Whether hot deep water, medium-depth storage solutions or shallow groundwater – ANGER offers flexible contract models:
- Contracts based on daily rates or drilling meters
- General contractor services (EPC, Turnkey)
